BBQ Wayfinder is straightforward: open the app, grant location access, and you'll immediately see what BBQ territory you're in. Territory detection and the regional almanac are always free. The $2.99 Pro unlock adds Big Five Nearby, BBQ Passport, and Saved BBQ Places.
Make sure location access is set to "While Using" or "Always" in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → BBQ Wayfinder. If you're near a regional boundary, the app may show an adjacent territory — boundaries follow culinary tradition, not state lines, so they won't always match your intuition.
Big Five uses Apple Maps to search for nearby BBQ restaurants. In rural areas, results may be sparse or none may be within a reasonable radius. Make sure you have an internet connection for live search. If you're confident there are joints nearby, try refreshing — MapKit occasionally needs a moment to load results in low-signal areas.
Tap the "Restore Purchase" button on the Pro unlock screen (found in the Support tab). Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID used for the original purchase. iOS restores non-consumable purchases automatically in most cases.
Territory detection, the regional almanac, and the map all work completely offline — no internet required. Big Five Nearby requires internet to query Apple Maps for current data. Your saved places and passport check-ins are stored on-device and sync via iCloud when you're online.
Passport data is stored locally and backed up via iCloud. If check-ins disappeared after reinstalling the app, iCloud sync may need a moment. Go to Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud and make sure iCloud Drive is enabled. Contact support if the issue persists and we'll help you troubleshoot.
Yes — tap any region on the Map tab to explore it. The Wayfinder tab uses live GPS, but the Map and Regions Guide tabs let you browse all 31 territories freely without relying on your location.
BBQ Wayfinder requires iOS 17 or later. We recommend keeping iOS updated for the best experience and security.
Purchases are processed by Apple. For refund requests, contact Apple Support directly at reportaproblem.apple.com or through the App Store app. We cannot process refunds directly.
Note what you were doing when the issue occurred, force-quit the app, and restart your device. Check that you're on the latest version of BBQ Wayfinder in the App Store. If the problem continues, email us at support@fouledanchorsafety.com with a description of the steps that caused it and your iOS version.
